#125 Jaipur

similar to riding a horse, just taller

While we had some fun in Jaipur, visiting the Pink Palace and Amber Fort, and it was fun riding a camel and an elephant. On the Rotary side, we had a dinner meeting with eleven clubs, with the Jaipur Central hosting the event.  The introductions were long with this many clubs.  We were partnered with clubs, I was partnered to the Jaipur East club wherein one member and his wife joined my fellow district member Sandy Harter, we smiled and try to make conversation with our two table mates who spoke absolutely no english.  The clubs presented us with shawls or turbans and as most Indian club meetings go; we held the meeting, closed the meeting and then ate.  In India, most of the clubs stand while eating, an interesting concept.  The food was delicious, especially the soup.

I also want to talk about the Jaipur Limb Center, which was started here in Jaipur making artificial limbs and calipers (braces) to those individuals in need.  The average cost of a custom fit limb is $50 compared to over $2000 in the US.  While we did not have the opportunity to visit the center in Jaipur we will take part in a Limb Camp in Calcutta.  On last year's trip we went to the Jaipur Limb center in Dhanbad.
