Riley, a Rotarian in training |
This club meets at Bonnie's Cafe, a throw back to an earlier area. Walking into this cafe you are transported to 1949 when the restaurant was last renovated. Owner Tom gave me the history of the diner which opened in 1938 by a gentleman named Bonnie. Tom and his wife are the third owners taking possession in 1989 and has kept the spirit of Bonnie's alive offering good home cooking and friendly conversation. Tom's two-year-old granddaughter, Riley, helps with mixing batter and who can resists those beautiful eyes.
Club Secretary and Treasurer Jim offered to meet me at the restaurant even though the club decided to cancel their meeting in an effort to save on revenues. This club with less than ten member has had a hard time attracting and retaining members in the down economy, a sentiment I have heard within other clubs. None the less the club strives to support local youth events and does fund raising around the town's holiday celebrations to which they seem to hold at every holiday.
Meal $10
